Leaving Your Phone in The Car This Summer Can Cost You | Weekly Techie Tip

Updated: Jul 17, 2019

You may feel that you're carrying the hottest device of the year. But you won't truly know that until you forget it inside your car on a hot summer day.

Exposing your Smart Device such as iPhone's, iPad's, Galaxies, or even your laptop can be extremely harmful for it. During Summertime people tend to leave many electronics inside their vehicles. Kids bring iPad's then leave them there. You run to your Grandmas house real quick and leave your laptop bag inside your car. We don't really think about it too much until you come back to a horrible screen lifted iPad or your laptop won't turn on anymore and your sitting there thinking what happened? Well Don't blame your kids or your grandma. Blame the heat.

Cars can get hot and reach temperatures over 100 degrees within 30 minutes under the Sun. In most instances the damage caused on the devices is due to the lithium batteries having a chemical reaction to the heat. The chemical reaction can cause the batteries to inflate like a bubble and in rare instances catch fire. This inflation is the reason why a screen is lifted or other components are out of place.

What should you do if this happens to you? Place your device in a cool place and wait 30 minutes for it to cool down. Some devices like iPhone and Samsung have built in thermostats that will notify you to let the phone sit until it cools down. Picture to the Left. Once cooled you can check for any damages. If all looks good you may be in luck, although in some instances you may not start experiencing issues until down the road such as poor battery performance. If you see your screen is lifted or the battery is lifted DO NOT TEMPER WITH IT. Instead take to a repair shop or contact us at Techie. You're going to need to get your device repaired. Most of the time a battery replacement is all you may need.
